Planning a Visit to Florence-Carlton Church: FAQ

Whether you’ve attended churches a lot in life or have never attended a church service before, visiting a church for the first time is a new experience. And it helps to know a little about what to expect ahead of time. So here are answers to some of the most common questions we are asked when people are interested in visiting at FCCC.

We have three different worship services at FCCC: two on Sundays at 9:00 am and 11:00 am, and one during the week on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. Feel free to show-up a few minutes early. Some of our folks would be delighted to show you around before service starts– to help you get familiar with our setting. If you have children who would like to participate in our Sunday children’s ministry, we recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the service you are attending.
You’ll find that we’re pretty casual – jeans and boots, t-shirts and tennis shoes, slacks, dresses – it’s all good. You won’t find many suits and ties, but if that’s what you’re comfortable wearing, go for it.
On Sundays our services take place in the main building of FCCC. As you approach the front of the building , the welcome center and worship area are through the double doors on the right. Signs will direct you toward the main door. When you walk through the front doors, you’ll be greeted by a friendly team of volunteers.  If you have kids that you’d like to register for children’s ministry, we have a child check-in system inside those main doors and will gladly get your family registered in a matter of minutes. And if you’re like many of us and need that ‘2nd cup’ of coffee or tea, we offer free drip coffee and tea in the foyer of the worship area.

On Wednesdays, Carlton Cowboy Church is held in the historic Carlton Chapel, approximately 100 yards north of the main building. As you turn off Old Highway 93 into the parking lot, turn right and follow the paved driveway to the chapel parking area.

It’s up to you. On Sundays we have childcare for nursery through preschool in our 9:00 service, and a full children’s program through 4th grade in our 11:00 service. Check our “For The Children’s section” section for more specifics about the offerings in each of those services. But if you’d like, you may worship together as a family. It’s up to you.

In addition to our mid-week student ministries, we encourage students in our middle school (grades 5-8) and high school (grades 9-12) ministries to attend Sunday services with friends or family. (Look for their group to have a special section at the 11:00 service on Sunday mornings.)

On Wednesday evenings the service is designed as a family worship experience, so our children join everyone for worship together in the Carlton Chapel.

Each of our services – Traditional Service at 9:00 am Sunday, Contemporary Service at 11:00 am Sunday, and Cowboy Church at 7:00 pm Wednesday – has a different feel. If you are new to churches, we invite you to try each to find the worship ‘style’ that seems most natural for you. If you have attended church before, you may already know the style that is the best fit for you. If you like choirs, hymns, and that traditional church feeling, then the 9:00 am service is for you. Our traditional service has been the main-stay of our fellowship for over 50 years. If you like more modern forms of praise and worship music, the 11:00 am service may appeal to you. It incorporates contemporary expressions of faith as we worship God in a relaxed, modern setting.  If you are most comfortable in a non-traditional, “come as you are” setting, Cowboy Church on Wednesdays may suit you.  Just show up with your jeans, your hat, and a hunger in your body and soul.  With our country Christian band playing you may even find yourself singing along.
We promise we won’t point you out publicly!  You can remain completely anonymous if you wish. We will try to introduce ourselves, and, if you’d like, share some information about who we are. And don’t be surprised if you can’t make it out the door without people greeting you and trying to make you feel welcome and feel at home. But we don’t want to be pushy, so we try to leave the decision on how much you learn and how much you share in your hands.
We recognize that people are different, and we each may respond to God more naturally in one style of worship more than another. So we offer various styles that allow people to find the most ‘natural fit’ for focusing on God. All of our worship services at Florence Carlton Church share the same teaching pastors and provide the same message each week for a life changing journey with Jesus.

Traditional Worship

Sundays 9:00 am
Main Sanctuary

If your natural fit includes a choir, hymns, and the affirmations of faith that have connected the church for generations, then our traditional service may be the right one for you. Our traditional service has been a central part of our fellowship for nearly 60 years. Nursery and childcare are provided at this service.

Contemporary Worship

Sundays 11:00 am
Main Sanctuary

If your natural style of worship leans toward a more relaxed atmosphere, guitars and drums, and the songs you hear on Christian radio, then our contemporary service may be right for you. Nursery and a full Sunday School program for children through 4th grade takes places along with this service.

Cowboy Worship

Wednesdays 7:00 pm
Carlton Chapel

If you’re someone who is most comfortable in a non-traditional, ‘come-as-you-are’ setting and find the songs of faith in country music fit your style, Carlton Cowboy Church may be for you. Meeting in the historic Carlton Chapel, Cowboy Church begins with a provided
‘chuckwagon meal’ each week before families of all ages worship together.
